Today I took a look at FreeSEOReport.com, a new service that offers a free report on a single keyword, and then prompts an upsell to a monthly package ($19.95 per month) for unlimited reports, with some more features (ability to put your logo on the report for example).
I did an SEO report on a primary .ca domain for my day job, on a keyword we were already ranked 6th for.The overall structure of the system looks good, but I can only provide limited feedback because the system does not seem to be able to parse .ca domains. It gave an error loading my .ca domain and an error loading two other .ca domains that were also ranked on page one. So unfortunately I can’t really comment on the quality of the comparision / suggestions the software is supposed to make other than the general observations made on each page.
In fairness, these observations are fairly accurate, but they are more or less one-size-fits-all comments that could be applied to any website. Another annoying UX problem I found, was on the HTML Report Page, it doesn’t actually display any of the site’s load time, it just provides a link to test it, which does not open in a new window, loosing the report page. Then when you press back, you are taken to the page previous to the one you were on.
As the service only comes with one free credit, I’m unable to go through the process again with a .com domain without actually paying out for the service, something I’m not really keen to do at this point. I’m sure the Free SEO Report team is aware of this issue and will correct it at some point, then maybe I can revisit the report and make a follow up post on the quality of the actual comparisons and advice the report offers.
