The other day, in my StumbleUpon Series (Part 1 , Part 2), I had been sent a little traffic from them a few days before I wrote those posts. Little did I know that it was merely the beginning… the day those posts went live, SU started referred over 2200 visits to my website, and was picked up by Reddit which sent another 220 or so visitors. The following day sent 1600 visitors and yesterday sent us over 1100 visitors. It’s 4 PM EST right now and we’ve had just over 900 visitors.
Social media traffic can be great, especially if you can get popular across the networks. Though StumbleUpon got me some traffic from Reddit, the page didn’t get popular there unfortunately. However, when a page does well on one social media site, there is a greater chance it will perform well on another one. Often times, users of one social media service also use another so you can get positive responses from one user across several networks.
The problems with social media traffic include the fact that the users are always extremely fickle, and although I am getting some repeat visitors… it’s extremely low. The other issue is ad blindness, as the current CTR is about .025%.
I’m not sure how much longer this traffic flow will continue, but I’m assuming it will end at some point. Ideally, all I’m looking for from this flow of traffic is a few link backs. It’s not going to make the site “arrive”, but it’s completely free traffic and you can’t get a better deal than that.
In other news, the new blog design is finished! I will be away from my computer for the next few days mostly, so I am not going to make it live until Monday… just in case we have some problems with it that need immediate attention.
Good Profits.
