One of the most annoying things about this industry is how get-rich-quick it’s become. I talked about this briefly in the Brad Callen post, and everywhere you look these days some ‘guru’ or expert is selling some e-book or software with promises of untold riches from the Internet finding their way into your pocket book, while you sit on the couch and watch Spanish soap operas.
Becoming wealthy by starting your own business takes a lot of hard work and discipline. The online business market is no different. Just because the barrier to entry for the online business world is much lower does not mean that online businesses will have a greater survival rate than the traditional sort. If anything, I would not be surprised if online businesses had a much higher rate of failure.
Is it possible to become successful relatively quickly, yes… but you could win the lottery too. If that’s what you’re looking for, then you’re better off taking a trip down to Vegas every year. We did happen to get extremely lucky with our celebrity fan site network, but we had been plugging away at other things for a while before they exploded for us, and still it has not come without a price. We are now experiencing a whole host of problems moving forward as a direct result of our celebrity sites.
Don’t let this turn you off from starting an online business, just don’t get into it expecting a quick buck. It is very rewarding to watch the publishing money accumulate once you achieve a degree of success on your sites!
Good Profits.
