Dave and Jay is not the most successful make-money-online blog, we’re probably not even in the top 100. We’re just another nameless face awash in the sea of thousands of others just like us, trying to stand out from the crowd.

The biggest struggle for a blog like ours, something we wrestle with quite often, is coming up with unique and useful content that’s not simply a regurgitation of something you’ve read 100 times already today. If we don’t have unique and engaging content for our readers, then no one is going to bother stopping by.

So what’s a would-be blogger to do? Don’t worry, it does get easier as you go. I’ve found that the more I blog, the easier it becomes to actually write a post once I get an idea. You may have smartly selected a unique niche and you don’t have to worry about content, just traffic. However, if you’re stuck in a highly saturated blog topic like us, here are a few ideas that may spur your creativity and help you come up with content worth taking notice of.

1. Review a relevant product.

Find a product that relates to your particular topic and post an honest and in-depth review of it. Not only can you generate some quality content with this method, but you can also create affiliate links and the opportunity to earn some referral dollars.

Don’t write an ad-piece. People will see right through it and be turned off. Highlight the good things about the product, but don’t shy away from mentioning the flaws. People will appreciate your honesty - this builds trust in your blog, and increases the chances that someone will intentionally buy from your affiliate link to help you out.

If you have a product that you own and use already, you can save yourself some hassle and money. In our case, we reviewed SEO Elite, a program that we’ve used for quite some time, and we’ll also soon have a review of Keyword Elite. Don’t be afraid to contact vendors and ask for a free trial or review of their product. You are offering them free advertising, and the worst they can do is say no, you lose nothing!

2. Talk about your on-line business.

If you are running a blog about making money online, you should actually be trying to make money online via websites and other methods. If you aren’t, then you may have chosen the wrong topic.

Discuss the successes and failures of your current promotional / money making efforts with your online holdings. Not only does this give you some unique content you can’t find elsewhere, but it can give your readers a real world case study that can provide invaluable insight when studied.

3. Break up the monotony with a personal post or some humor.

As you probably know, I am NOT a fan of personal posts on a blog like ours, but it is a valid method to add content to your site. John Chow uses this expertly to provide several posts a day to his visitors. Another method that I’m more comfortable with is on-topic humor. If it’s actually funny, and related to your field, not only does it provide great content for your blog but you may even get a few links from some fellow bloggers!

Our recent fine dining parody post is an example of on-topic humor. It’s too early to report on the noticeable effect (if any) this post will have, but if it’s successful we may be exploring humor as a method of growing our blog in the future.

Hopefully these tips will help you come up with some quality content for your blog - in between the phenomenal post ideas that already pop into your head every so often.

Good Profits.
