Here is our latest blog review! As previously mentioned, Jay and I are planning on exchanging reviews with one other blog on the same topic as ours per week. This accomplishes many goals: it helps build back links for us and for those we review; it allows us to refer our readers to a blog that they might not have found otherwise; and it’s a good way to make connections with bloggers in our selected topic. If you’re interested in exchanging reviews with us, then email me (please note, I’m tired of people emailing me saying “I’ve posted your review, here’s the link”, so I’m ignoring these type of emails from now on. Please email me before writing about us on your blog!).
This week’s review is of Fuery.com, the blog of Johnny Fuery. Originally it started out as a personal blog, but over time it’s become a place for him to discuss business and his personal and professional musings on business - and sometimes just life in general. Generally, we let the blogger we are exchanging reviews with set the tone as to what type of review we’ll exchange. In this case, Johnny really went quite in-depth and wrote an excellent review (located here), so to return the favor and both Jay and I are going to write up our thoughts on his blog.
Dave says:
If you’ve been reading my posts for awhile, you’ll probably have gathered that I don’t talk about personal issues in posts. Personally, I feel a blog like ours that is designed to help people make money online shouldn’t be a forum for personal occurrences and feelings. I’m drawing on my own experiences here, but if I’m reading a blog, I’m there to read about the person’s take on making money online, not what is happening in their life.
Okay, enough rambling, where I’m going with this is, Johnny manages to inject a bit of his personality into posts while keeping it interesting. This is a great credit to his style, because normally I’ll skip over anything that doesn’t have anything to do with earning online, but I actually read a few of these and even laughed at some! However, I must admit when I was going over his more recent blog posts I tended to zero in on his posts that were more geared to my interests (e.g. making money online) and Johnny definitely has some wisdom to share. This post about promoting your blog was a real standout for me. Great checklist of some basic promotion steps that all new bloggers should take, and there’s even a few that we haven’t been doing here (but we will now)!
I knew right from the start that Jay would like this blog more then me, just because Johnny is in property management too. However, Johnny has some good ideas to share, so surf on over and read. :)
Jay says:
Today I have to say I was pleasantly surprised when Dave told me we had been given a very in-depth review by John Fuery; normally the reviews we get are 200 words or less, but John’s was extremely well put together. So as our way of saying thanks, Dave and I decided to write up a quality and honest review of our own.
Upon first loading Feury.com, I was struck with the simple genius of the red dot in the header. It’s interesting and unique, however I was rather surprised at the number of ads. From our admittedly limited research, having ads has a tendency to turn away visitors, which is why our blog is ad-free… at least until we have enough traffic.
Looking at the site’s content, I have to say there is a lot of interesting material here, though I think his “Geekspeak” category is a bit misleading, since it contains many nuggets of useful information on blog promotion, affiliates, etc., mixed in with some appropriate “Geekspeak”. However, seeing that he already has so many categories, it probably wouldn’t hurt to add 1 more to keep it organized. I do have to say, however, that I am very impressed with John’s life story, especially his career in real estate. Reading his ‘about’ page, and a number of articles on the site, leads me to believe that one day he will have one hell of a biography.
Some people just ‘talk the talk’, but the minute I read the line “If your cash flow is too positive, you’re not leveraged enough; if your cash flow is too negative, you’re doing something wrong and need to get it back to zero as soon as possible”, I knew he was for real - and I would like to add that I believe that is exactly why so many property management companies come and go. It’s pretty hard to maintain that balancing act (though it helps when the interest rate co-operates), but i wish him the best of luck both online and off.
P.S. I agree Dave is the most personable; I’m kind of a loner by nature, whereas Dave is a social butterfly, but we both (moreso me) owe our acclaimed grammar skills to Faith - she probably spends as much time or more fixing my posts as I do writing them [editor’s note: who, me? Never… ;)].
