It’s been a few weeks now since we first heard about a new tactic being used over at John Chow’s blog; the tactic is pretty simple: you create a review about a product (the product must also have an affiliate program), and then link out to your various blog posts when possible.
Once you have the content posted on your blog, you then promote your review via adwords.
The idea is that people visit your site from your adwords ads and then visit other pages on your site, in theory at least a few will stick around. Ideally, your review would also generate enough sales to either break even or turn a slight profit, essentially giving you a free traffic stream.
As far as we can tell, a number of other blogs are picking up on this idea and giving it a try - so we will try to report on both our successes and failures with this as well as those of others!
First up for our experiment is a review of SEO Elite. Both Dave and I picked it as our first review because we have the most personal experience with it; our business currently has 3 licenses, and we also have a copy of keyword elite which will likely be the second product we review in a few weeks time.
Neither Dave or I have ever attempted any sort of affiliate sale like this before, but we both agreed that in order to have the review bring in repeat users, it would be best to make the review entirely honest - which should be interesting, since I have yet to see a review for an affiliate product which wasn’t a sales letter. All our reviews will be posted in the Software Review section, and we will do our best to keep from posting them too frequently.

Interesting, and new to me. Be sure to let us know how it works
