The Top Commentator Experiment

Holding top commentator spots on Shoemoney and John Chow has done wonders for our traffic. We’re getting over 100 visitors a day and growing now. It’s been so successful that we’re on the lookout for other related blogs that we can get top commentator spots on, as well as the two we just mentioned.

We’ve also got some other tricks up our sleeves for building more traffic to our site. As always, we’ll be up front with the methods we’re trying to employ. We want you to be able to learn from our successes and failures.

It definitely works - that’s how you got me!

Of course, the difficult problem in a new site is how to get readership up to the point where the top commenters are involved for at least 10-15 comments/week.

How long do you believe you’ve invested on commenting on the John Chow site?

For quite some time Nick, we’ve expanded the project to many related but less popular blogs as well. I believe we have good content on our blog, it’s just a matter of letting people know about it and the Top Commentator spot on blogs is one way to do that.

It’s win-win really. We build relevant (at least I’m trying to post mostly relevant comments) on other Blogger’s site and they share their reader base with us :)

    You got me too! :P
