Our blog has slowly been picking up some steam (i.e. visitors) this month, now that we are back on track and sticking to a regular update schedule. I like to think we’re providing content to you guys that’s worth reading.
We’ve decided to start actively trying to build our user base, now that we have found a comfortable update schedule. One of the methods that we are going to pursue is a top commentator spot on John Chow’s website.
If you haven’t heard of John Chow, then you need to move out from the rock you’re living under. He’s a successful web entrepreneur and runs one of the most popular blogs on the subject. He’s big on giving back to the community, which is very savvy. His various linkbait schemes have helped his blog skyrocket in popularity in a very short amount of time. He currently has the “Top Commentator” plug-in installed on his blog, so the individuals who comment on his blog the most get a site-wide link to their blog.
It’s basically a value proposition. You build content on his blog, and if you build enough of it, you get a link back to yours. I’ve noticed he doesn’t moderate the comments too much, which is okay. Though, the quality of some of the comments is not so great. I’m pretty sure some of the commentators are being controlled by two people as well (contradictory comments in the same post by the same user). However, despite this fact, I’m going to go about things the proper way and do my best to make comments that are meaningful to the discussion of the post (with the odd quip from the peanut gallery of course!).
By the time this post goes live, we should have been on the top commentator list for a few days already, and have some data to give you on the benefits of being listed on as a top commentator on his site. Ultimately, we’re very curious to see if it’s worth the time invested…and I bet you are too!
Good Profits!
