If you haven’t heard the name Jimmy Wales before your not alone, however chances are you’ve heard of a little website called “Wikipedia”, thats his creation.. Anyways news reports are indicating that Jimmy has teamed up with Amazon.com to launch a new search engine.

In his words “Essentially, if you consider one of the basic tasks of a search engine, it is to make a decision: ‘this page is good, this page sucks’,” Mr Wales said. “Computers are notoriously bad at making such judgments, so algorithmic search has to go about it in a roundabout way. But we have a really great method for doing that ourselves,” he added. “We just look at the page. It usually only takes a second to figure out if the page is good, so the key here is building a community of trust that can do that.”

If you read into the new report linked above you will see that what Jimmy Wales really has planned is a user driven search engine simular to other web 2.0 communities like Digg, the idea being that human volunteers will view websites and give them a rating, this rating is ultimately what determines your rankings.
