Web Cam Theory

Today was our first real test of using web cams to subsitute being in the same room togather.. On my end I think performance was a bit higher then it normally would have been if we’d been in the same room, mostly due to the fact working on laptops or even 19″ screens when opening up loads of windows (I currently have 32 windows open) is much harder then on my 42″ screen at home..

Between 10:10am and 4:30pm I sent out 73 link request emails by hand, on the last work day where I was called away I got a mere 16 sent out between 10am and 12pm.. That means at home I sent out 1 link request ever 4.16 minutes while at Dave’s I sent out 1 every 7.5 mins..

I can’t speak for Dave but for me it was a good experience, still had a few laughs and while I wouldn’t want to do it EVERY work day I do think it will in the long run become a good way for us to increase worktime since theres no need to schedule as tightly ahead of time, if theres an afternoon free? We can load up the web cams and do some work and if something goes wrong and someone has to drive away (probably will always be me) then noone has really lost a day or wasted gas and with 42″ 1080p monitors becoming so cheap ($1399) if we get growing again it may even make sense to buy a second one for my Oakville office then we really can do alot of work days heh..

Don’t get me wrong.. its not perfect by a long shot but if a few more work days work out like this one I think itll be the first good idea our business implements this year..
