While the search engines continue to get smarter and link exchanges become less valuable it’s still the easiest way for a newcomer to get some google lovin’ or if nothing else a top ranking on MSN.
Since I’m spending alot of time link building this month I’ve started to test out some new ideas, one idea in particular seems to be working very well.
What is that idea you ask? Well its quite simple.. include a link to your sites traffic stats, in my case thats a screenshot taken of the previous months awstats report.
How effective is it? Well the jury is still out however in the past 5 days I have sent out roughly 80 semi personalized template emails for link requests, these emails have earned me a whooping 2 links.. I have filled out exactly 30 link exchange forms which earned me 1 link.. At this point I started sending out template emails with a link to the traffic stats email and out of 10 sites which Ive sent the emails to thus far 5 have added my link despite my offer to add their links first..
Now by no means is that conclusive proof that it works but what really made me want to run off and post here about it is how “happy” and “excited” people were to link to me, granted Im in the unique position of building up sites that already have a decent ammount of traffic that rank well on Yahoo and Msn but abysmal google rankings but if you are operating in a niche where enough relevant sites are a few pages up and not getting much traffic your traffic you can use to your advantage even if all you have is a 3 month upward trend to prove your working at increasing your traffic.
I guess the moral of this story is just try something new!

Yeah, obviously the quality of the site is going to play a fairly significant role in this. Your site at the very minimum needs to have some unique quality content written for it…the more the better.
